“depa” upgrades Digital Thailand Big Bang: Digital Station to brand new
“Hack A Thailand”, post COVID-19 crisis event – Stay Tuned!
depa Building Ladprao – The Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa) announced cancellation of Digital Thailand Big Bang: Digital Station, the future-forward exhibition aimed at raising awareness about the importance and advantages of digital technology and innovation, due to the ongoing spread of the COVID-19. The digital-inspired event is originally scheduled for May 15-16 this year. The depa has revised plan to align with the current circumstances by planning to organize a digitally enhanced event called “Hack A Thailand” to showcase a vast range of digital technologies and innovations as well as a lineup of digital-driven solutions. The event is set to kick off immediately after the COVID-19 situation gets better.
Dr. Nuttapon Nimmanphatcharin, President/CEO of depa, said the depa intended to provide Thai people with a uniquely digital experience through the launch of Digital Thailand Big Bang: Digital Station after the COVID-19 pandemic is under control. It is scheduled for May 15-16 at Siam Paragon Shopping Center. But, due to the lingering COVID-19 pandemic and the instructions announced by the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) on April 16 to refrain from organizing or hosting any events and activities that risk further spreading the virus, the depa considered cancelling the launch of Digital Thailand Big Bang: Digital Station in order to prevent virus transmission and reduce infections. The depa plans to organize digital-related events in due course in the future after the COVID-19 situation improves.
“depa has continuously organized Digital Thailand Big Bang since 2017 with an ultimate goal to allow Thai people to get in touch with the world-class digital experiences through an array of digital technologies and innovations to inspire the digital enthusiasts to create and develop digital-driven products, services and solutions. The event has accelerated all-inclusive development of the digital industry and the adoption of digital technologies and innovations so as to improve the quality of life of the people. It has also helped boost international investor confidence in Thailand’s digital infrastructure. The depa considered that postponement of the event indefinitely will affect the overall content strategy of the event that might not be compatible with the evolving technologies. Therefore, the depa decided to call off Digital Thailand Big Bang: Digital Station and now looks forward to organizing a greater digital showcase event called “Hack A Thailand” after the end of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said the President/CEO of depa.
Dr. Nuttapon added that the depa is in talks with multiple organizations and relevant agencies in the public and private sectors on the format of “Hack A Thailand”. They also include a number of organizations that have played a key role in driving the digital economy and society. Hack A Thailand will prioritize creating jobs, generating new career opportunities as well as developing digital manpower, which is a key growth engine of the country. It will showcase a vast range of advanced technologies and innovations that we are facing in the future world. Thais and foreigners will have a hands-on, extraordinary digital experience. It is expected to help enhance the potential and competitiveness of Thai digital startups and entrepreneurs through a variety of digital-oriented activities as Thai digital products and services will get an opportunity to gain international exposure and get access to global markets. The event is expected to start immediately when the situations are getting better, serving as a reward for the public for joint efforts to overcome the crisis and being able to reopen the country to welcome back foreign tourists from across the world.
However, the depa remains committed to raising awareness about digital technology adoption, especially digital-related activities that can be hosted virtually via online channels such as the “Long-D Challenge” campaign, short video contest and viral clips about adoption of digital technologies and innovations in everyday life in the new-normal era, including the launch of virtual conferences. Interested people can stay updated with all the latest details via depa’s communication channels at www.depa.or.th, LINE@depaThailand and depa Thailand Facebook.
